About Makayla
Reaching out for help can be frightening and anxiety provoking. Makayla strives to offer a calm place to land to work through life’s highs and lows, and to provide hope. Often reaching out can be the hardest step on the journey and Makayla wants to make it as easy as possible. With a gentle demeanor and soft encouragement, Makayla will make every effort to support you on your journey to your best self.
Makayla believes there is a strong connection between mental and physical health. She hopes to enhance individuals’ overall wellbeing through the use of various therapeutic modalities, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Makayla’s approach is client centered and strengths based, all while being trauma informed. It is important to get to know each other in ups and downs, and to know the whole person. There is so much that makes you, you!
Makayla Fancy is a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) and is a member of the Ontario Association of Social Work (OASW). She received her Honours Bachelor of Arts from Crandall University in 2016, and completed her Master of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2019. Since that time, Makayla has been actively seeking opportunities to deepen her knowledge, and has recently completed Phase I of the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) through the Child Trauma Academy to provide further trauma informed care and treatment to individuals across the lifespan. Makayla can also offer NMT assessments that involve a comprehensive understanding of individuals’ life experiences, a broad brain map of current challenges, and treatment recommendations based on individual need.
Makayla has experience with young children, adolescents, youth, and adults. Makayla has extensive knowledge of mental health conditions (such as stress, depression, OCD, ADHD), developmental and intellectual disabilities (such as ASD, FASD, behavioral diagnoses) as well as neurological conditions (such as epilepsy). She is more than comfortable meeting with people individually, or as a family to work through challenges as they arise.
Makayla’s areas of focus include: developmental and complex trauma, mental health challenges, attachment, grief and loss, emotion regulation and impulse control, social skills development, and self harm ideation. When individuals are ready, Makayla will be waiting to welcome you with a comfortable space. She would be honored to get to know you and support you in whatever feels best for you.
